Seems to be the trend lately :D

I picked up my grandfathers plane from my dad this weekend. It appears to be a #3 Defiance. It doesnt have Defiance on the handle, just on the iron.

What I was really trying to do was find some info on it, maybe a date ???? Not many markings to go on, there are a few on the castings, but dont know if they would help.

Does anyone have any resources for me to do a little research? It would be more sentimental than anything, although for me ( REAL new to handtools ) its a good practice weapon !!

Thanks for listening.

I did that last night for the pre-cleaning phase. I will upload them this evening.

Its more for sentimental reasons than value, I know they are just a handiman version ......

ok, here are some pics. If anyone has some idea of how I can track the age of this baby, I'd appreciate it.

The bible of all things Stanley Plane related: Patrick's Blood and Gore http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0a.html

I'm sure you will be sucked into his vortex for some time and come out with drool all over your keyboard, a lust for shiney metal and rosewood objects and more than likely some information on your plane.

Good luck and treat it well.

I love that site!

this appears to be the handyman version of stanley's #3, the defiance series, what i cant find is much info on that series.

i have seen a few pretty close to mine on e-bay, but nothing past the 'vintage' label .... mainly curious to the age of this plane.
