I have a friend that is going through his father's estate and has a lathe he wants to sell but does not know how much to ask for it. Anyone know about Vega lathes?

He thinks his father bought it aroung 1993. It measures 12" from the center to the bed and will turn stock 36" long. It has a 1/2 HP motor and has a bunch of Buck turning tools.

I saw it in an outdoor shed and it has light rust but looks like it would clean up nicely.

Any ideas what he should ask for it. If his co-worker does not take it, he asked me to post in in the classifieds here.

Thanks for any opinions you could share.

i think it is worth nothing, send to me and i will take care of it fir you. does anyone think 1/2hp is small for a 24in swing?

Get the WD-40 out and clean it up---list it on ebay with no shipping.
From what you listed it would be a great "First " lathe for someone.

What part of the country is it in? I Googled for a Vega 1200 lathe but didn't find anything. There are references to the Vega 1500 and 2400. Can you get more information on the lathe or even some photos? For example, it doesn't seem reasonable that it would be 12 inches from the center to the bed, meaning it could swing a 24 inch blank, and yet have only 1/2 hp.

I'll get a couple of pictures and ask John to remeasure and confirm the distance from the center to the bed.

Thanks
