View Full Version : Stanley Logo Dates?

Greetings to all,

I'm looking for a resource that will show what dates the various Stanley logo types were used. I've been trying to date some of my block planes. Pat Leach's Blood and Gore helps a little, but it paints block planes with a fairly broad brush.

My #18 planes both have the newer knuckle joint cap and what's been described as a "V" logo blade. Neither has the model number stamped into the side of the casting. They're also 6 1/4" long, versus the 6" that Pat Leach's site suggests they should be.

I have three #220, one with a "Sweetheart" blade and rosewood knob, One with a notched rectangle blade (replacement?) and rosewood knob, and one with a notched rectangle blade and stained hardwood knob. The japanning on the two rosewood knob versions is jet black, while the hardwood knob version has a little blue in the japanning when compared to the other two. It still looks black all by itself. While all have been well tuned and perform nicely, the Sweetheart version has a really tight mouth for a #220 and takes a very fine shaving.

Any input is appreciated. I can post some pics if that would help.
