Trying to get the biggest/most out these spalted pieces I came up with the Pot/Bowl. It's about 7 inches round and 5-6 inch tall. I made a lid for it, but don't know if I like the lid. If I decide to keep the lid, I think a bigger Finial is needed... what you think?

Love the wood.

I concur with your opinion on the finial. I would have liked it more if it had been bigger. Just a round knob might have been nice.

I like the lid idea. It adds a different dimension to the piece.

Nice job.

Jon - beautiful wood! Agree with Toney - something simple like a round knob would work with that form just fine! I like the way the lid adds to the piece!

Mighty pretty Jon. Think about a dark colored acorn shaped knob. Might work well with this spalted wood.

I love the box. I'm not enamored with the lid shape...in my eyes, a simpler profile that mirrors the simple curve at the base of the box, but reversed, sweeping slightly up to the center where your finial is mounted might work better. The ogee doesn't do it for me.

Jon, very nice piece, and the spalting is spectacular. Gotta say, though, looks a little like a spitoon, to me! Mike:p

Jon that is a beauty. I like the lid on it but would do a round tear drop knob on it.

I like the lid, and it will be spectacular with a bigger finial. Really nice wood too!

I like the lid shape, but I think I'd like it to go out to the edge of the bowl.
On the other hand, it seems a shame to cover up the wonderful spalting on the inside of the bowl.
