Hello everyone,
Long time listener, first time caller...hee hee
I'm sure this is a very basic question but...
I am trying engrave on oak (or really any kind of wood) to make a photo matte with a name or saying on it. Does anyone know where I can aquire this type of very thin wood (maybe veneer?)?
Thanks,
Robin

It would be nice if the wood was finished, but it doesn't have to be. The mattes I have seen seem to be 1/8 or less and very light, like they might be veneer on somekind of coreboard or something (I'm really not sure). I would like to make mattes for a 12 x 12 frame or 11 x 14 those would probably be the biggest and then down to a 4 x 6 frame. Right now I would like a few pieces to practice on and have some samples in our store.
Thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin;
I recommend you use the processed flexible veneer as it has a paper backing which keeps it stable. Regular veneer is too thin and will curl, warp, etc.-
Try this link. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=2216&cookietest=1
