This wood was saved from Craigslist as "firewood". I went to check it out, hoping for turning wood, and this is what I found.


Roughly 13-14" at the widest point. The finish is Minwax Antique Oil.

Wow! Nice save! Great curl and what looks like a little birdseye thrown in for effect! I bet this really grabs the light! Nice work Nathan - looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks for the reviews, guys. The burls, or what I thought was burl, my wood expert (PhD in forestry/wood science) said they are "bud traces" IIRC, like where little twigs were growing on the side of a tree away from a limb. More pieces to follow in the future. I'm not going to run out of this wood any time soon. BTW, I forgot to mention it's silver maple. The tree had fallen on someone's toolshed. She was happy to see the tree gone! (I'm going to bring her a bowl someime as a thankyou).
