View Full Version : 1/4" acrylic for router table plate?

Would 1/4" acrylic be sturdy enough to build an insert plate for a router table? The borg carries this as well as the thinner 3/32" stuff which I imagine would be too weak.

The router I'd be using is a Dewalt 2 1/4 HP fixed base model, so it's not quite as heavy as some of the bigger routers out there.

I appreciate the input! :D

Personally I feel it's still on the thin side. I feel it would sag over time.

Michael,

I made one for a big old Elu out of 1/4 and cemented 3/4 strips on edge to stiffen it. It still sagged.

They've got 1/4" Lexan there too, and it's much stiffer than the acrylic.

So you think that'd work OK for a plate?

So you think that'd work OK for a plate?I have no idea, but if the problem is that the acrylic isn't stiff enough, the Lexan may be the solution.
