The LOML wants a cherry bed. Can anyone point me to a good source of hardwoods in the Huntsville, AL area?

Thanks!

Wow, small world. I too live in Huntsville. I know that there is a decent hardwood dealer in Scotsboro (sorry, the name escapes me). I haven't found anything local. The clerk at City Lumber said that Madison Lumber may have some and would be the best bet in town.

Hey Guys, Florence here.
I haven't checked it out yet, but someone told me that some of the Amish folks up around Lawrenceburg & Pulaski may sell hardwoods. Been meaning to check it out, just haven't had time.

The Hardwood Center is in Scottsboro and they do have a website.

I can already see that they're gonna get some bucks off of me. Sounds like a road trip for a Saturday. Thanks for the link.

I used to live in Hazel Green, AL and work on Redstone Arsenal (17 years on the arsenal) and there are plenty of sawmills in the Madison County area to purchase good wood from. I used to buy a good bit of my wood from an old school principal out in the Moontown area.

My parents still live in the Old Monrovia area and I'm there visiting about twice a year.

I made a trip out to Hardwood Center today. I could get in a lot of trouble there. Kept it somewhat reasonable today. Just picked up some maple for an entry table. They seemed to have a good selection of all kinds of woods. Pricing seemed within the ballpark I was expecting.

Watch their plywood. I picked up a sheet of 1/2" birch. I didn't look it over, just grabbed it. Everything else I had looked at was in great shape with little if any warping. Well, I got home to notice I bought probably the sorriest piece of plywood I have ever seen. It is warped, cupped, bowed, and any other type of bending you can think of. I don't know what I am going to use it for since it is in such condition. I am not going to drop $30 in gas to try to exchange it.

The rule on plywood is never ever take the top sheet unless you carefully inspect it. The top sheet 99 of 100 times is someone else's cull.

Yeah, normally at the BORG I sort through the pile. Hardwood Center has signs indicating that cherry picking the plywood will result in an increased price. I imagine it has to do with damage that the shuffled culls incur. Next time I will inspect with the same scrutiny that I do at the HD. If they give me any trouble I will just let them know that I already purchased a 4x8 potato chip from them.
