I've encountered a few large tenon saws at swap meets and antique fairs but most have been in rough shape and way over priced. A friend found the one below for sale locally and asked if I'm interested in it. The blade is 24'' long and apparently has no markings at all.

It is about 30 minutes out of my way so I haven't gone out to look at it. Nothing screams 'buy me' from the photo but it's cheap and I'm a sucker for hand saws. Any thoughts on it?
Thanks.

After a little looking online... It is probably a Disston steel back mitre box saw (http://www.disstonianinstitute.com/backsawpage.html) (>1945).

The handle looks like it could be a Disston, but that picture doesn't show the side of the handle that would have the medallion so I can't be sure. If it's less than $10 or so, I'd go for it.

Hi Graham
In addition to use on a mitre saw box, these saws are great for cutting the sides of dados and sliding dovetails.
Cutting the female section of a sliding dovetail:
Mark the dovetail and use a guide to position the saw ...

Here is the big picture ...

Looks like it will clean up really well.

Derek,
That is exactly the use I envision using it for... waiting for the seller to get back to me. He's checking if he still has the old metal mitre box for it as well.
