I usually post here in the Turners section, but thought i'd share my good fortune up here as I do flat work as well.

On another forum I got a heads up on a CL ad for Performax 16-32 Plus Drum Sander, seller was asking $400.00.
I emailed him several days past thought for sure it was long gone, and finally a reply with the sellers phone number.

I called him made arrangements to go look it over that evening.
I offered him $360.00, and he said thats fine.

I know, no pics did not happen, so here they are.

I stopped off at Woodcraft on my way home with it and JET wants $120.00 for the caster set , Woodcraft had theirs on sale so I got an exact set for under $50.00.(except the urathane wheels are orange instead of gray.)

While I am at the sellers house I notice an older Unisaw shoved in the corner on his garage buried under a pile of stuff, I said Is that an old table saw in the corner? ( Playing dumb of course, I was drooling inside.)(seller was my age mid 40's)
He says yeah but I wasn't planning on selling it, it's an old Army Issue saw from 1929, I laughed inside as I knew Uni's werent made in 1929, and no 4 feet on it either so I knew it was newer that 1938-9?
I said well IF you were going to sell it, how much would you sell it for?
He talks abut it some more, about how powerful it is at cutting through Oak ect. but says again he wasnt planning on selling it.

I said OK, would you take $200.00 cash for it it might make a nice clean up project for me. I pulled out the 100 bills from my pocket and waited he stood there looking at my cash and the saw and said yes $200.00 will be fine it's yours.:D

Again No pics did'nt happen, I'll post the Unisaw pics in a reply.

Scott,

I am sure you got a good deal on the table saw, but I don't know enough to know how good a deal. What's your estimate of the saw's value in the condition in which you purchased it? Any idea of what its worth will be upon completion of re-conditioning?

Thanks,

John

Scott,

Great score on the Unisaw! $200!!! Please post pictures after you get it up and running. Is the dust door solid or louvered?

I am green (actually Rockwell gray) with envy.

Best!

Congrads I would say you got a good deal on both. A $100 blade on a $200 saw good deal.

John,
That just all depends on how you yourself feel about certain purchases.
To me a very early Vintage Unisaw with the original RI 1HP single phase 110/220 motor 2 original cast iron wings, original jet lock fence, a Woodworker II ($100.00) blade mounted in it. Made it well worth it to me.

IF I parted it out on Ebay , i'd make money on it.
But like my 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air 2 door hardtop,
I will restore the Unisaw to it's full former glory and not worry about what it is or isn't worth once finished.

And will reap my rewards in using a Classic most sought after Table Saw by many woodworkers even today.

You can answer your own questions John simply by doing a Google search for "Vintage Unisaws".;)

Hi Jerry,
Thanks, I did not get the Dust Door with it, I am searching one out now for it.

It should have the 2 piece louvered door. I'll be happy with either the one piece or the two piece but will look hard for a two piece.

I am also on the lookout for the Optional Cast Iron Goose Egg Motor Cover as well(expensive, so we shall see.)

I have a WTB unisaw parts down in the classifieds now. And on other forums as well.
Also bidding on stuff for it on ebay already.

I need some other items too but all in good time just like buying any TS you add accessories as you need or want them.

I'll post pics once its pretty much done hopefully soon too.

You probably already know about Old Woodworking Machines website owwm.com, but in case you don't, they have a WTB and WTS forum where I see a lot of Unisaw parts come up for sale. Good luck with the restoration. I have a restored 54 Unisaw that I use all the time. $200 is a GREAT deal.

Well said 40 something young man. We often take pride in building or rebuilding things so we can build things.Unfortunately we are a people that have developed into instant gratification. I do have old tools that I beleive I will never use again that I know I shoud get rid of but at the same time I have a few old Rockwell pieces that I rebuilt but rarely use but when I do, It's a great joy to have something that's works so well without problems and perhaps a greater joy that I re-built them and made them that way.

Old tools never die except when people choose to let them rust away.
