Computer DVD player

Who could recommend a free program to play dvd's on the computer? Windows media player seems not to work well most of the time so I am looking for a replacement for that.

Which version do you use? :D I want to avoid any software that has become bloated with extra stuff that is not needed. That is the reason I gave up on Nero. They have let this program get huge and complicated to install. :(
