I've got 6, 12 Volt Makita drills/drivers on the bench (yea, I know... but I hate changing bits... production shop) and my 3 to 5 YO batteries are biting the dust. A few die in a day or two while just sitting.

I'm going to buy at least 6 so a good deal means saving real money. Any suggestions for not just the lowest price, but the best source for OEM or aftermarket? I prefer spending more for quality goods than spending twice for junk.

Have MTO (http://www.mtobattery.com/store/) rebuild them. You can even have them improved (mh-wise) in most cases. I had 2 Makita and 2 De Walts done recently. Very satisfied.

Another place is "Batteries Plus". Don't know if they have a store in your area but they do good quality work. I also like the fact of the increased ah.

The local ace hardware sent a circular out, and next weekend they will be selling new 18volt Makita drills for 79.99 Might check out your local ace hardware. They come with 2 batteries. Jim

I had good service and prices from:
www.batterybank.net (http://www.batterybank.net)
I am not in any way associated with them. Found them on the Net

Weird website, but they came recommended to me and I've used them to rebuild some 9.6V Makitas - good cells and they are still going strong...

Hi, I'm just over the hill in Bernardsville. If you want to stay with OEM batteries, Makita has a service center just off the turnpike in Dayton. I think it is exit 8 or 8a the one for Cranbury, forsgate. The service center is about 5 minutes from the exit. The people there are very helpful.

I've gotten some parts from them over the years.

I'm almost resigned to buying a new drill/charger/double battery set. I've done this before, I was just hoping that I could find that batteries had gotten a bit cheaper.

For about $30.00 more than 2 new Ni-Cd batteries alone, I can get 2 batteries, a new drill and charger too!

Ain't that the truth. Amazon has a 12 V kit (http://www.amazon.com/Makita-6270DWPE-12-Volt-Ni-Cad-Cordless/dp/B0009OMYGA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1214090647&sr=8-5) for 80 clams, free shipping.

Yep.... and with 2 NiMH (model 1234) batts - the kit is $136.00. About $20.00 more than 2 new NiMH batteries from Makita's own store.
