This is a peice of mesquite I got From Robert. I really like turning this stuff and can wait to get more.

this one is smaller- about 8"x4" buffed antique oil. Please tell me what you think.

Bob, very nice job. I think maybe I should drive up and take some lessons from you. I hope you saved some of the scaps for the grill:D

Wow, Bob. The contrast here between the bark, sapwood, and heartwood is really amazing. Great bowl.

Beautiful wood and great form. However, I don't think the wood is mesquite. I've turned a lot of honey mesquite from Texas and screwbean mesquite from California and it doesn't look like either. Mesquite has thin, stringy bark making it almost impossible to get a natural edge. Also, the sapwood is creamy, not yellow. A lot of South American mesquite is imported into the U.S. as seedlings since it is cold hardy and grows in the mountains. But, the bark looks very similar to N.A. mesquite. North American mesquite grows in the low deserts of TX, AZ, NM and CA.
This particular piece grew in the CA high desert on property that has 5 hot springs on it so it never got that cold. .......Ron

Very nice Bob.

You are making me look bad though. The LOML saw your bowl and asked me if I would keep some of the wood that made bowls that looked like yours and get rid of some of the wood that just made regular bowls instead.:D:eek::D:eek::D

Guess I need to sharpen up the NE skills and give it a try. You are setting a high standard though.
And yes, your bowl is positively mesquite, but I am sure you already know that.

Another very nice job Bob - Interestingly it looks very similar to laburnum we get over here apart from the bark which is different.

Beautiful wood and great form. However, I don't think the wood is mesquite.

Looks exactly like all the South Texas Mesquite I've turned which
is a bunch..
Very nice NE!
