Hey guys,

I'm still having a bit of difficulty getting a good finish on my projects. I've only been able to get acceptable results from paint and oil + wax. I'm starting to finally get the hang of shellac, but only on flat surfaces with no nooks or crannies. :D

I've picked up The Wood Whisperer's Finishing DVD and am interested in additional DVDs.

Taunton has a few: Wood Finishing (http://www.amazon.com/Wood-Finishing-Klausz-Woodworking-Workshop/dp/1561588946/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1213587132&sr=11-1), Hand-Applied Finishes (http://www.amazon.com/Hand-Applied-Finishes-Fine-Woodworking-Workshop/dp/1561589004/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1213587214&sr=11-1), and Wood Finishing Basics (http://www.amazon.com/Wood-Finishing-Basics-Michael-Dresdner/dp/156158777X/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1213587251&sr=11-1).

Do any of you have further recommendations?

Thanks,

Paul

I'm more familiar with books on finishing. Jeff Jewitt has several good titles, and Bob Flexner Understanding Wood Finishing is highly regarded.

What is it that is giving you problems with other finishing materials? That might help point you in a good direction.

The problems I'm having are probably due to me being new to finishing and not having much experience or technique. I have Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide to Finishing by Jeff Jewitt and it is indeed a good book, but I tend to learn better by watching rather than reading.

I picked up the Hand-Applied Finishes DVD with Jeff Jewitt and Wood Finishing Basics DVD with Michael Dresdner.

I just finished the Jeff Jewitt DVD and I had quite a few "Aha!" moments while watching it.

Some of the stuff I had read in the Taunton book I previously mentioned finally made sense to me... and now I know what I did wrong with some of the problems I've run into. :D

I can't wait to watch the other DVD... and I'm getting excited to try some more of these techniques!

So... "Hand-Applied Finishes DVD with Jeff Jewitt" == Highly Recommended for finishing newbies like me.
