View Full Version : Choosing Wood for Entertainment Center...

If you were going to build an entertainment center similar to the one below... what type of plywood would you use, and what type of hardwood would you use? I'm fairly new to woodworking and I always have a hard time choosing the right wood, without breaking the bank.

I want to build something similar and I'm just curious what other people would select.

I assume that the finish used is milk paint. Would this be the best finish to use, since there are subtle areas where you can see the base color show through - for that distressed look?

Birch ply and poplar solid for painted stuff.

The finish question I would repost. I dont think you need a milk finish to do that though. Theres other methods.

As far as wood, whatever semi hardwood/hardwood is cheapest is fine. Here it would be ash, hickory,alder or poplar. Birch ply is what I would use as well.
