Does anyone have a suggestion for an inexpensive basic design software for a home woodworker?

A lot of people use Google SketchUp (free).

I keep trying to install SU, but it keeps giving me an error in the installation process. I have Vista, does the installation require any compatability changes?

Many thanks for your help in advance!

Rich

EDIT: I tried adjusting the compatability to XP, running the installation as administrator, and still got the error message. So, it may not be Vista.

Here's what the error message said:

Are you running the install as administrator?

No, I'm not... (sigh) Vista = "progress."

I did do some more research though, and found that SU requires a graphics card. My laptop, while it exceeds the motherboard, disk space, and RAM requirements for SU does not have a graphics card. It's a "work" computer that only uses RAM to generate graphics... I guess I never realized how much I had cheated myself.

Thanks for your help,
Rich

Richard, many graphics programs use techniques and "standards" that are not supported by graphics solutions that utilize on-board memory. SU is not unique in that respect. Some notebooks do have the option to update/upgrade to a higher level of graphics support, but most do not. In fact, it's unlikely that you can fully utilize the graphics capability of Visa on that machine, too.
