I need to know if either of these has the type of collet arrangement that allows a bit to be inserted beyond the bottom of the collet, so a long bit can be used without long bit projection. This is the case on my Porter cable 7812, and Freud FT1700VCEK, but I need a 3.5" motor diameter router with this feature. Thanks!

Am I not explaining this well ? There must be dozens of you out there with these routers (Bosch 1617EVS, PC 890 series). Do bits in these routers bottom out right below collet depth, or ca they be inserted further than that? Thanks!

The Bosch 1617EVS allows a bit to extend below the face of the collet approximately 1.8-1.9 inches. Measured with a caliper.

2nd the bosch for deep insertion. I haven't used a bit that bottomed yet. I just picked up a 2.5" fluted cutter though that might do it :)

Thanks guys, that saves me a lot of leg work! Will be using it on my newly built CNC router/joinery machine, and I can't stand the screaming and bit bottom out of the PC 690 .

a setup at the moment and can't measure it right now. Let me know if you still need it this afternoon and I will be able and happy to do so.
