I found a Powermatic 15" planer for sale for $1500. Its a PM15 very little use, with a small amount of rust on the base. Is this a good deal or not? Is the PM15 a good planer? I was looking at getting a sprial head planer or a helix head one but I kind of like the idea of being able to mill my own trim too. Any suggestions?

If it’s a plain Jane PM15 with the infeed/outfeed rollers, the $1500 price is a tad high …. I paid $1200 for mine, brand new, delivered to my door.

That's what I thought. I offered $1200 but haven't heard back. Do you like your planer? Would you buy it again?

I just sold a very nice PM 15 for $850. Replaced it with a 20" spiral head planer. I liked the PM 15 very much but was not really even aware how loud it was until I started using the spiral head planer. There is a very very noticable difference in the noise produced especially when actually planing a board. I have found the results about the same.

It's a good planer, I have had zero problems with mine. It won't give you a baby butt smooth finish like most lunchbox planners but it's a lot more machine, and a lot quieter too. Mike sold his for $850, that's about what I would expect to pay for a used machine.
