I got "the call" today from Brian at Welbeck Sawmill telling me that the General 650R would be shipping by the end of the week and asking if I still wanted one:rolleyes:. Duh, yes! The saw is ordered and I should have it "soon", whenever that is, and yes, there will be pics of this newfangled monster. Waiting, oh waiting.

General finally updated their product page to reflect the new product:cool:

I've had mine for a week and couldn't be happier. I love the riving knife. It is easy to change the blades and take the knife on and off. I've read some of the recent posts about the riving knife set-up headaches with the PM2000 so I was happy it was a snap, literally. No vibration, table is flat, fence and miter are square. The nice thing about Eagle Tools is they go through a thurough inspection before sending it out as well. The set-up was quick and easy and I was ripping through some wood in hours. It would have been one hour outside of the mobile base. I bought a custom HTC mobile base and the challenge is getting the saw off the crate and on to the mobile base by myself. It was a little easier to do this as I had some practice moving my 700 lb J/P to one.

Enjoy,

Kevin

Kevin, happy to hear you like the new saw. I'm glad I waited instead of buying the old style 650...the difference was $150Cdn. Since I'm in Canada, I assume my saw will be shipped direct from General so we'll see how the setup is from the factory. A mobile base is a must and I have a few of the Delta mobile bases I could use but I may want something beefier for this machine perhaps all steel. Right now I'm going to buy a shop crane to get it out of my pickup, move it around and to lift it onto the base.

Perhaps creekers need to start a new tradition of shipping out cigars and chocolate bars upon a new arrival!! As a chocolate addict, sounds like a good plan!

John, you have left a lot of us envious - congratulations.

Congrats John,
That is a great cabinet saw...plus riving knife to boot!

Of course, you know the rules...
we will need to see pics of your saw, not just the saw,
when you get a chance.

This green news is to good to 'not happen'!
take care,
Walt

My thanks to all who have expressed their congratulations and/or spittle-dripped envy but dang boys, its just a saw! Did I purchase "The Grail"? I was determined to buy what I felt was the best I could afford and would meet my needs until I'm in the dirt. This thing should outlive my brothers grandkids (I have no kids=More $ for tools) and hopefully they will still be using it long after I'm gone. If they sell it out of the family I will haunt them!

John,

Dont forget the pictures (riving knife in particular) and give us your impressions. I have a 650 without the R so I think you made a good choice. I have "R"envy. Congratulations!
