My wife & I went out today & bought a new 1.8 cf compact refrigerator to replace a 28 year old model. The model we got had alot more space inside than the older model we are replacing. The store personal loaded the refrig in my truck. When I got home & unioaded the refrig from my truck I discovered that it only weighed about 10 lbs. The old refrig weighs close to 40 lbs. After unboxing it I discovered there is no compressor. It has a fan in the back of the refrig. It has a blade in the inside & a blade on the outside & behind each blade there is what looks like a heat sink you would see on a computer mother board. I do not know how this thing works but I hope it does. I will find out if it cools in the morning.

Chris,

Maybe it works like an RV refrigerator. The one in our 5th wheel runs on 12 dc, 120 vac or propane. I don't think it has a compressor. They use a different coolant IIRc.....maybe it's ammonia?.....Anyway, they don't have a compressor.

We plug ac into the trailer before we go on a trip and let it cool down. Load it and switch to propane while traveling and switch back to ac if we stop for the night where we have power. Otherwise, it continues to run on propane.

I would like one of those fridges that runs on sound waves! Saw it on some green homebuilding TV show.

I have been using a thermo-electric cooler for years. You can get one for about $100.
