Picked up Josh from the last day of school and then dropped by the grounds crew to see if they had cut any tree's down lately. They did, One HUGE Maple. I can have as much as I want, but I've learned to only take a little bit at a time. When I get this stuff turned/roughed out, I'll go get some more.

Here is some really nice spalted pieces I received.

Jon - maybe I'm just greedy but I would make as many trips as I had to and pick it all up!!! Beautiful wood! Would make great hollow forms, bowls, etc! Could donate some to your turning club to raffle off!

Looking forward to seeing what you turn out of this wood!

Steve,

If I wasn't the only one interested in the wood... I would get as much as I could. But as it is, I'm it. This on private ground with many different ministries on the campus. There is some really nice curly, crotch and other figured maple in this pile. Probably a 40-50 foot tree that they fell. There are about 4 pieces sitting there that are about 4-5 foot wide and about 2 - 3 foot tall. Plus a boat load of more what I took pictures of.

Ben,

I don't even have pen blanks in mind with this stuff... unless there is a few cut-offs.

Great Looking wood. I know where some of it could be stored if you run out of room.

Oh, my...that's wonderful looking spalted maple, Jon!! Don't wait too long to go back for more if you can store it as you want it not lying in a wet pile somewhere. Spalting will continue when it's wet and the material can quickly get very punky.

Jon,

Great haul of beautiful wood! I don't know if it is true or not, but someone told me that maple is only good for about 2 years after being cut if not turned. I wonder if anyone else has any experience with this? I've not taken any chances and rough turned the maple I get fairly quickly.
