A few weeks ago I posted about the used Quincy compressor I scored off Craig's list. I have been searching for a 3-5HP one on a 30 gallon tank for 2 years. I wanted to be safe, so I replaced the releif valves, and the pressure switch. I also replaced the belts, and even though I was able to get the old motor running with a new start capacitor, the starter winding switch would sometimes arc, and the motor would sometimes jerk hard when starting. I was able to get a new Baldor 3HP compressor motor for $249 delivered, so I replaced that too. After all the work, I just had to paint it too. I used the same color, I think this was a Quincy color in the 70s. Here are the pics to prove it :)

Here is the finished compressor

The compressor with a 4 foot ruler. The Quincy is over 4 feet tall.

Finally, here is the old Speedaire true 3hp with a cast iron pump on a 20 gallon tank. It looks like a toy compared to the Quincy.

That's a score! I'll bet it moves a lot of air and will be running a long time from now.

Looks really good. Did you pull the access port and check out the inside of the tank? Sounds and looks like you did a great job.

Nice job, it looks brand new!
I had the same Speedaire with the same aftermarket manifold/filter setup. It went for ~20 years before I gave it to my SIL.

I did take a look inside. Rusty, but no areas where there was significant pitting. Looked pretty good...joe

Joe,nice job one one of the best air compressors made.At work we have several Quincy compressors for all the pneumatic controls. That brand is very expensive compressor and worth every penny.Grainger has all the parts.Yours, having an unloader helps with startups, looks like in the back is a line that runs the air back through the heads to help dry the air more before entering the tank.Should last you a life time.

Wow...what a beauty! That's a wonderful restoration of a venerable compressor! Congratulations!
