clear finish for mug

I am making a mug out of cedar for some friends of mine and was wondering what the best clear gloss finish for the mug would be. I want something that won't smell strong like poly. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

when you finish the mug please post a photo... my dad had an old wooden wine cup that was cool and i don't know what happened to it....he also had a wooden mug that had his shaving soap in it from france... can't wait to see yours....
