any way to tell which side is coarse and which is fine? I have an old combo stone, a King, and one side is a medium brown and the other is a very light tan. Is there any way to tell which is the fine side? Thanks Alan

Chances are the tan side is finer. But you should be able to tell between them by running your finger along each side (try with the stone wet). The finer side will likely be a lot smoother-feeling, with a sensation of being maybe a little sticky.
