Is there a program or "system" to create a shape with the inlay on a pen.

Scenario - I have a friend who would like me to turn him a pen; he really like the inlay / segmented piece in my "FIRST TURNINGS - Pens".

He requested if there was a way to turn a Star into the pen cap - Silly Dallas Cowboy fans...LOL J/K I'm one of those fans :D

Any help, tutorial, tips would be appreciated.

I'd like to try more intricate pieces. HELP!

Jon Lanier did a tutorial (http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=79113) on how to include a decal on a pen turning. That might work best for doing a star pattern on something as small as a pen.

I am having trouble finding it but a guy named Jim Boyd posted an online tutorial about making a segmented star pen at penturners.org

It was several years ago but if you look I am sure it is their.

I remember there was a turner who posted a how to for creating a 5 point star as the base of a platter. I couldn't find it, but since your Texan you may consider this instead.

You might also check the centerband inlay kit. They can probably also do a custom piece for your end cap if you need it.
