This is my first attempt at a natural edge bowl. Doing the inside I really had to take my time and watch my hand positioning as I wanted to keep all my digits. I'm not really pleased with the shape but I got quite a bit out of the experience. Finish is Minwax Antique Oil and buffed leaving out the white diamond.

All critiques welcome both positive and negative.

Very nice and the finish really stands out. My first natural edge attempt ended up as a nice bowl with no bark left on the rim.

Nicely done Tony! If you want some good examples of NE for form look at those posted by Mark Cothren here or Travis Stinson. Both do some stupendous NEs.

Nice job on your first NE...

I'm sure my first will end up blown out or no bark left as mentioned above.. LOL

I like it, a lot. I prefer that round shape as compared to a conical one. I think you did a great job, for your first or fortieth NE.

Tony,
That's a very nice piece, and way better than my first! So, I quess that spindle turning didn't affect you too badly, did it? Keep at it, it does get easier.

nice bowl, cuts from spinning wood dont heal to quick, serves as a reminder of what not to do, i got 4 scars from my first NE, well actualy it was that chainsaw edge maple crotch from a month ago but what ever.......... is that walnut? i think that you picked a good wood for this bowl, the contrast in color

One more vote for mesquite, and great job of keeping all that bark in place!

Edit: And what Jim said too!

Thanks for the kind words all.
For those who guessed mesquite, well you're wrong. It's walnut. But hopefully I'll be getting some mesquite soon as I keep hearing how nice it is to turn.

Another thumbs up from me! And a question: did you do anything special to secure the bark (such as fix it with CA or add it back on later) ?
Well done,

Norm,

There was only one spot on the bark, about one inch, where I applied some CA glue. Otherwise no special treatment.
