I am staining a front door made of Spanish Cedar with Minxaw stain. My question is what would be my best choice for a lasting clear coat. The door doesn't get direct sunlight. I was told a spar urathane would be good but I wanted some other opinions.

Also, I have some cypress post that gets direct sunlight half the day. Should I stain and clear them or would a deck stain work good enough. If stain and clear is best what should I use?

Thanks!!

I have a red oak from door that does not get direct sunlight, and no rain. I did some research and the one that was recommended (sorry don't remember the name) was the most expensive exterior door varnish Home Depot. It was supposed to have the most UV inhibitor. The advice I was given was to recoat before it started to break down. I had previously used a Deft door varnish and it only lasted 2 years before it started to really break down. The one I'm using now looks like new at 4 years...joe
