Dan,
Unfortunately the engineers of this lathe aren't turners. The slowest speed of 600rpms is not slow enough for rough turning a 14" piece.

Dave already mentioned the slowest speed being nearly 3 times what you need if you are going to turn bowls. The spindle is also marginal for this size lathe. A 1 inch spindle is pretty beefy, but 1 1/4" is a bunch better. Don't know anyone who has tested it, but I have some questions about that 2hp rating as well. A little hard to believe, especially since it is only 110. I was always told that the largest motor that can run on 110 is 1 1/2hp. I'd save for the Nova 1624 and get a tested and proven lathe over this "bargain" lathe. At least they did put a nice set of legs under it.

I think this is a re-badged Grizzly G0462 in white coat.
The only nice thing I can say about this lathe is the nice legs.
The horse power is inflated. I was told it is impossible to get 2 HP from 110 V 15 Amps.
For a "2" HP, 16" swing lathe, I would want 1¼" X 8 spindle instead of 1".
The tool rest extension is accident waiting to happen.

Take a PASS on that one Dan.;)

As Gordon said it is a repainted Grizzly. I would not want to put a 16" blank on that to rough out at 600 rpm. I would pass.

I saw this lathe in Raleigh at Klingspore for $399.00. Harry

The local Retool store in Greenville, NC has one. I would love a lathe with more inches between centers for longer spindle turning, but this one simply does not have enough meat or muscle for my taste. Besides, I am saving for a slider, and buying another lathe would eat into my tablesaw budget.
I would hold out for a Delta, larger Jet or Nova first.
Just my nickels' worth.

There's two different units of measurement for horse power i believe. They may measure it in the uncommon one that shows inflation when it is actually correct. Or they are showing the input of horse power as it is measured by 746W but an electric motor is not completely efficient so it may reduce to say 1 1/2 hp as the output.
