I am going to buy a new 14 inch band saw and it will have to be easily moved . one car garage shop. as sad as it may sound the ability to move it around will more than likely be the deciding factor, are some saws easier to move without losing stability? Is there a style or brand of mobile base that is clearly superior? thanks David Hines

I use the one that Rockler, Woodcraft and many others sell.

It is stable and I have never had a problem with it wanting to fall over. Mine gets rolled around in my little shop all the time.

I use oak for the boards and they work out very well. I have the same base on the TS and planner.

The steel city band saw comes with its own base.

David-having just done this for my new MM16 (485lbs)-I searched the board for "mobile base" and there are a ton of options. I ended up using some pricey but excellent casters made by Zambus (then shortly thereafter found a less expensive set of similar construction-will keep that one in mind for future needs) There are a number of options from custom made by HTC, they have two other adjustables the 3000 mobile (good for 700 lbs), 2000 mobile (500 lbs-which will be more than adequate for a 14" bandsaw), General makes a good one (500lbs-I have it on DP and router table) and you may find something like a Delta dedicated to another machine but fits your foot print-if it is a little off you can alway shim the gap with plywood etc.

My Jet base sits under my Jet saw and is quite stable.

I have the same base on my 14" DElta BS and it moves around without any problems. Since bandsaws are very top heavy don't get it moving too fast or a small pebble or scrap of wood on the floor can lock up a wheel and it will try to tip.

I am not a large fan of the shop fox base. The pivoting casters are slightly too large and the wheel will drag on the frame when you move it in one direction.

Some others have had the same problem as myself with the base.

Used to own that same combination and never had any stability problems. I've got Zambus casters under a MM16 now.
