Well, this is the first piece from the curly maple gloat I posted a while back. It's actually not the very first piece; one ended up cracking along a worm trail right as I was finishing it, and another one I gave to my grandmother for Mother's Day. Anyway, here goes.
The piece is about 9.5" wide, and 6 tall. I don't like the form so much, but I had to turn away some punky wood, and a couple of shallow chainsaw cuts from the outside of the log, which was given away on Craigslist as "firewood". The finish is BLO with a couple coats of SealCoat, which will probably be followed with a few coats of lacquer eventually.

I'm obviously not a photographer.....

Nathan, very nice job "centering" that figure on the piece. That's just plain wonderful curly maple!
