My first pierced platter its a Sycamore 11" diam x thick 2/16" or 28cm x 2mm,oil finish with a light waxing when oil had dried, it was pierced with a Dremel and a small diamond cutter or I should say 5 after they broke on me before finishing the piercing, unfortunately the tungsten cutter I had was to big for this work, and the diamond cutter required quite a bit of pressure to cut,the piercing to me about 3 hours to complete and a very tender fore finger.

Any comments or critique most welcome.

That is VERY cool... I would never have the patience for that.

Very impressive work David! Beautiful plate to begin with - amazingly thin! Great design - reminds me of Celtic! Are you going to take this to your next club meeting?

Thanks for giving us the English measurment on this beautiful piece. I can appreciate the hours of work you put into it. I am not a fan of such a small foot on one this large, but I do like the overall platter.

Thanks everyone for looking and your comments, Steve no I wont be taking it to my club it was more an exercise to see how thin I could go safely go without a catastrophic break up, and to make the piercing easier, those that commented on patience I have not got any normally, but once I started going round the platter piercing it suddenly dawned on me how long it was going to take, and at that point I was wishing I had not started, but a platter with piercing only a quarter way round don't look right, - Glen I have to agree with your comment on foot size, I generally would have gone one third size foot for a platter but as this project was not intended to be functional piece anyway I'll probably put it on a stand just purely to display it, and hope no draft catches it because its so light !
