This is a winged bowl I started a couple of months ago, I finished last week. I wanted to name this one and I couldn't think of agood name, Dick Strauss came up with "Turbulence" as soon as I heard that I knew it was the right name. Thank you Dick for the name. It measures 18-1/2" at it's widest point and 2-1/4" tall, the wings are 3/8" thick. I finished it with several coats of Walnut oil for a nice satin finish.

Thanks everyone, I love the way these pieces look, but they are nerve racking to turn, you get your finger in the wrong spot and it might be laying on the floor. It's like turning the side of a saw blade.

I have a couple of names for it, El Perfecto, or Great Speckeled Bird. That is one of the prettest things I have ever seen.

Thanks again everyone, It's one of the best pieces I've ever done. A while back I went to my wood guys place to get 24" walnut logs he said I could have, when I got there he pointed to a couple 3' logs that were half burl and asked if I wanted them, it dosen't take any imagination to know what I said. Two hours later they were slabbed and on the way to my house. I knew I wanted to do a winged bowl so I picked the best cap on the log to cut for it. This is the second one I've done. The first I did about a year ago. When I finished it I swear it was giving me the bird, here's some photos to see what I mean. It's also Black walnut burl. This one was a Christmas gift to my sister in law.

It takes a true artist to turn a "lowly" piece of wood into something so lovely. The wood is gorgeous. Nice!!
