This piece measures about 11'' wide. The bark was already gone so I burned it. Its got some nice figure in it, notice the pic of the bottom, it looks almost like two different bowls. Antique oil finish. Thanks for looking.

It is a beauty Mike. I really like the burnt rim it just sets off that wood.

Nice Mike. Idiot question from my end though. Do you get the rim close, then burn it, then finish turning the thickness so that only that the top is left burned, and not the inside or outside? I hope that makes sense. :)

Good looking bowl Mike. Looks like it had a spot of birds eye in it.:)

Mike nice touch with the burnt rim, I usually don't like charred wood, but that looks really nice. Is that a stamp or just an iron you didn't heat up to mark the bottom of your bowl?

Good looking bowl Mike! Beautiful wood! Love the color contrast between the bowl and the rim - works well together!

Love the bowl - your idea of burning the edge is one I need to remember. I started turning a natural edge bowl and I'm not too confident I'll be able to save the bark. Burning the edge is a good alternative. Nice work!

Nice bowl Mike - the burnt edge looks great and sets it of.

What I do to keep the bark on is to flood the bark with thin ca glue and it nearly always works for me, I also use a sharp small gouge just for the bark area, and push the gouge towards the wood just for inside and outside the bark area.

Yep, you did the right thing by buring the rim on this one. It looks great on the light wood.

Thanks for the comments. To answer the questions, I burned the rim with a propane torch before I put it on the lathe to finish turn, so it was about an inch thick. The bottom was done with an engraver.
