I thought I saw a thread here a ways back on installing this type of flip up bench stop, but I cant locate it

Anybody recall the thread? As an afterthought i bought 3 of these to mount on my bench. There's no instructions which isnt a big deal but I'm curious whether I should hunt for an exact sized bit for the round middle portion. It's tapered but the wide part at the top seems to be an odd size. I'm going to check tomorrow with digital calipers but the analog one puts this around 23/32" (haven't checked metric yet though). I assumed this would want a standard 3/4" round dog hole opening. The square mortised in portion would hold it snug, but it seems like I'd want the post hole snug at the top of the taper too??

Why not just open the hole with a file or rasp if need be?

Most likely if the bottom part is not snug it will not matter. The surrounding metal and the mounting screws are what will take the brunt of the force.

Chris Schwarz has a step-by-step somewhere. Might be worth a look over on the Woodworking magazine blog. I think that's where it is.

I just installed one of these in my bench the other day. I followed the instructions that Chris Schwarz has in his Workbench book. Hope this helps.

For $6.00 that's not bad.

I'd wonder about how sturdy they were. But then that's a function of how tight one likes to clamp. I'm a bit of a gorilla when it comes to securing things.

I did end up getting a couple of these installed a while back but couldn't really find the instructions on Chris' website
