I have an old Delta lathe that I have restored and have used for some segmented bowls and spindles. I recently came into some bowl blanks of walnut, cherry, birch, and locust. These all came to me for the best price (free), but they are 10, 12, and 18 inches. I have an outboard face plate, and have already rigged the lathe with a jackshaft to get the speed down to about 300, so the only thing I need to turn some of these is a tool rest.

I'm looking for ideas (photos) for building an outboard tool rest. I figurerd this is the best place to ask, so does anybody have any pictures of their outboard tool rest to post for us to see?
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Steve check out the The Mustard Monster site. Lots of ideas both homemade and retail one's there. Enter and look under; outboard/rest on right side. Sorry it would not let me copy the link.... Bruce

Look for one of these, this is Delta.

I have it along with my Delta 1460 Lahe.

It was just sandblasted in this pic.

Look on ebay for them or start placing "WTB" ads on the forums.;)

Hi Steve

I am able to weld so here is what I came up with for free.

A wheel with 3 nuts welded to the bottom edge with bolts to level the stand 2 telescoping pipes for the upright parts & a nut welded over a hole with a handle welded to a bolt to clamp it at the proper height. A thick piece of metal I had around the shop to clamp the banjo to & its ready to go.
