I found a jet 1236 used with the followign tools

Tools:
1 Hamlet Parting Tool ASP HSS2060
1 Hamlet 1” Skew Chisel ASP HSS2060
1 Hamlet ¾” Gouge ASP HSS2060
1 Hamlet ¼” Spindle Gouge ASP HSS2060
1 Hamlet ½ Bowl Gouge ASP HSS2060
1 EXOCET Multipurpose Turning Tool
w/Adjustable stainless steel handle with foam grip
(original cost $210.00)
8 PC Delta Starter Tool set

How is the jet 1236 and how fast will I out grow it? Also this is a blue painted model probably indicating it is old. not sure of the age.

The asking price is $750 is this a fair deal or should I continue to save for the powermatic?

Jason I started with an old Delta 46-450 and just yesterday received my 3520b. It's a night a day difference, if I did it over again I would have gone straight for the Powermatic. I had not turned anything in 30 plus years, so I really didn't know I'd get hooked this bad. The one thing I did was buy the 1 1/4 X8 to 1X8 adapter, so I can use my old face plates, ect.... If you know you like to turn, go for the 3520b. I was able to trade a gun for my Delta that I only had $200 dollars into, so not much cost. Good Luck and good turning...Bruce.

The individual tools are desirable, but not this lathe. If spend this kind of money, I would rather getting a better lathe and add quality tool one at a time. You can get the unhandled Thompson tools for less than those Hamlet 2060.
I had the Jet 1236 as my first lathe, I upgraded to the Jet mini which is a more enjoyable lathe to use.

BTW, HF usually has this Jet 1236 clone on sale for $180 after discount.

I just got a 1236 about three weeks ago, came with a couple of extra face plates, some curved bowl tool rests, and some HF & Craftsman chisels for $350. With the extra tools you are getting its probably a comparable deal though I really don't know if I got a good deal or not.

In the box, bought from suplus $325, glad to hear you are going to pass on that. I have the harbor freight tools and they work just fine for what I do. Did by a termite tool from Oneway and it's my finishing tool. As for the the 1236 it's self I really like it. I've used the out board a few times and it's been quite solid. I don't have any plans to upgrade anytime soon.
