Need a quick and dirty method for cutting wedges on a table saw. I know there has to be a simple shop-made jig for this -- what do you use? Thanks, Vince

Here's one that David Marks used in one of his projects:

Thanks Alex, but I need to cut some individual wedges of different sizes, and I'm looking for a jig I can use to so this on a table saw. I cannot access the second link.

Hi Vince

Looking at your "Posts No." I understand that you are a "beginner" in this forum and you made the "beginners mistake"....

Next time when you choose the title for the post, remember that is must contain the words "Sawstop" or "Festool" or....well, you got the idea....(Just joking)...

OK, to the subject...I prefer to make them with sled and hold-downs.

You can make a sled with only one runner, no fence, just add some screw inserts or T-nuts for the hold-down clamp(s).

Put your workpiece as you like, clamp it down....

And....Schnitt (cut)...Blade guard installed for....safety...

And here it is with the "Blade guard removed for clarity"...

If you want to make another one at the same size, take a strip - lower (thinner) than the workpiece....

And clamp it to the sled...If you have to make many, you can even screw the strip to the sled.

Ready to cut...

The two wedges...

But you can make many...

Before it was taken off the air, David Thiel did a wedge jig on Tools and Techniques. He jut took a piece of scrap, and cut out the wedge shape on one side of it, however big you wanted it to be. Then, use the jig against your rip fence, and put a board/scrap into that cut out. Push it through the blade, then flip the stock over, so that you cut the next wedge off and are back to a square end. Repeat as needed.

As I recall, his was made for 3/4" stock, and it had a handle on the top and a Masonite top so that the resulting wedge was captured between the top and the table top.

Hi Greg

I believe that you mean something like this one
8877688777

I was about to suggest it but it's good only for one size wedge and.....look what happened to me during the cut...the wedge climbed up on the aft part of the blade so I "deleted" the idea and selected to go with more safer sled and hold-downs.

Yes, that is the idea. If you put a hardboard cap on top of it, maybe with a layer of rubber inside, it will control your wedge.

I meant to take some shots of my 30 minute jig when you posted this but got side tracked.

I call it my 30 minute jig because it took me all of 30 minutes to make it.
It is 3/4 MDF and some spare T track that I had, then I cut 2 T tracks in the MDF for the fence. The fence is just a 1/2 inch of poplar with a hole at one end and a slot at the other.

I use the TS fence to hold it against and do not use a miter bar, this way I can move it to the right all I need for wider boards.
