I have a question, how much and how flat! I have a PM66 with a top that has a .014" dip behind the throatplate, should I send it to the grinder to flatten?

Heather does it effect your cut's enough to worry about?

What Bruce said...beyond the throat place is likely not to be very affective to your cutting in most cases, at least in my mind.

It wouldn't hurt to ask a Blanchard grinder guy what he'd charge.

Heck if I know. I've never done it before. Oh wait......you said.......ooops, never mind. ;)

I had the same issue with my PM 66. It was much worse without the wings. Did you have the cast iron wings installed when you took your measurements?

I was quoted $175 for a blanchard grind on a ts top, from a shop in Salt Lake. Just an FYI

You are talking about less than 1/64th of an inch (.0156). I sure would not want to see you lose any sleep over it.....

Very funny Glen. And how long have you been waiting to use that line:D?

Be sure you inquire as to the quality of the surface finish from the grinder. It may not be as good as what you have now. Also, what ever they remove from the surface will reduce the depth of your cross cut guides, the depth of the recess for the throat plate and fence mounting hole locations relative to the table surface unless you have those machined separately.

Is it possible to shim between the cabinet and the top and take some of the dip?

I get it. Took a second or two though.

Heather,

I'd like to know how you determined the 14 mil dip. Are you sure? I'm with a couple others in that it shouldn't impact things at the point where it is located.

That took me a second or two.

When I bought my 66 thirty years ago I noticed it had a .015" dip in the table. Called the regional sales manager and the factory considered it within tolerance. Hasn't been an issue.
