Here I am almost 50 and acting like a 4 year old. Talked to WMH Tuesday morning to track the delivery of my new Powermatic 3520b. Was told it was loaded for delivery Tuesday A.M. just before my call. This has been a rough two days, no new lathe yet. The lathe must be sitting in Phoenix on a trailer, only 2 1/2 hours away. Have the shop all set for the new equipment. Moved my Delta lathe, Sharpening station, made a honing station out of an old saw motor. Sharpened all the tools. My tree man brought by the last load of wood for a while 16"- 19" mesquite, he's moving away.:( After getting the load of wood anchorsealed, I had to turn a small pepper tree Bowl/cup just to keep busy, very pretty. Sorry no pic's updated my operating system (linux) and haven't been able to use usb for a few days. Will get it figured out soon. The nice thing is tommarrow should be a great day, when the lathe is set up and powered on......Still had a great time turning on my old Delta 46-450. It's all FUN....

Bruce,

I'll tell you what's worse. I took delivery of my PM3520B back in September and didn't use it until just before Christmas. I promised myself I was going to finish my shop. I building cabinets right now. Just got through cutting, ripping and planing parts to make up the face frame. I turned 3 Christmas ornaments just before Christmas and then spent a weekend learning to use my new Lacer skews. Now I'm back to finishing the shop. I have got to get some cabinets built and a wood rack built so I can regain some of the floor space. The good news is I'm learning to appreciate my new DC, my t/s, my scms and planer again.:D I've got a list of turning to do a mile long.

Ken thats how I got into turning, redoing my shop. I was going to build a cut off table for behind my table saw a two or three day job. Saw an ad on Craigs List, bought a whole shop off a guy in Mesa. Ended up with a Shop Fox 5hp cabinet saw with bess. overhead guard, roll off table, ext. table with shop fox fence, 3 WWII blades, and a Freud dial a dato. Grizzly GO513 17" 2hp bandsaw, with all the extras. Dewalt mitersaw, a new in box vacuam pump and bag, A pick up load of hardwoods, and veneers. Grizzly 3hp 220 volt dust collector, with shop fox remotes. All the equipment had about 10 hours of use. Talked to the guys wife and she said her husband liked to set up projects just never used them. Bought everthing for $1700. Got everthing moved around in the shop over the next month, then thought I have room for a lathe, thats about all I was missing. Found one on Craigs List with in a week traded a gun for it. Came with 18 spindle tools, face plates, live and dead centers, cailipers, 3 drill heads (morse tapers) and about 15 drill bits (morse taper). It was just gone over; new bearings, paint, belts, he and his machinist freind rebuilt the whole lathe. Never knew I would be sucked into the vortex that quickly, just love it. I'm handcap so I can turn for 20 minutes and sit for a while, turn a little, sit a little. The only thing I wanted was to turn larger items. The Delta is a 12" swing, but I wanted to do some larger bowls. Found a older lathe again in Phoenix, my wife chimed in and said if you like it why don't you go buy what you want, why buy someone else's trouble. Have to love a wife that thinks like that. Spent a few weeks turning on my Delta and really going over all the reviews on the net. Decided 2 days after the price increase to take the jump and go with the 3520b. Haven't heard any bad reports yet. Can't wait...Good Luck with your shop. Hope it doesn't turn a 2-3 day job into 5 months like mine turned into. The best laid plans of mice and men.......I think I like the learning part the best, SMC has been just great for that. Everyones been great help. Seeing some of the work people produce really makes me want to get better. Like I said its all FUN....Bruce

Steve the best part is I was able to upgrade and sell my old equipment for almost the same amount. Thanks to the Indian Casino's in Tucson, I was able to upgrade my turning supplies. New wolverine sharpening station, Beal buffing system, Doug Thompson Gouges, new scraper, and I just ordered easy rougher (http://www.easywoodtools.com/ci1.htm) . Next month I will probably have enough saved to order Randy's monster system. Thanks for the support everyone, waiting is the worst, but lots of fun to look forward too. I keep telling myself that this is a cheap hobby, because you can turn firewood. (turners lie)

Update just talked to WMH to find out where my lathe was. Was told it was delivered on Tuesday. Customer Service said they would check on it and call me right back. Never got that phone call????? Called back and they gave me Roadrunners phone number,so I could track it myself. Was told by Roadrunner that it showed as delivered. They called the terminal and found it in Tucson. Called Tucson and they gave me the run around that they had not received the bill? Talked the guy into shipping it down today. Talked to Sean at ToolNut and he told me to call if I had any further trouble, but yes they have had trouble with Road Runner and had contacted WMH about not using them for deliveries. At this point I have to say the customer service people seem very nice at WMH, but I'm not impressed with thier customer service....don't return phone calls, make the customer track his own delivery, and not following though. Powermatic customer service just took a nose dive in my book....

Welcome to my world! I also had trouble with return calls from their Customer service... I did have some success by talking with the manager of customer service/ tech. service.... Finally got a new replacement lathe -- hoping I never need their help again.. (or lack of help).

I have never received my rebate yet... Sent in Feb/08.

Paul sorry for your bad luck. I did send them a copy of my last post through their website. I finally got a call from the first girl that said she would call right back 3-4 hours later, and after my e-mail. I had called Sean at Toolnut and he went out of his way to make me feel better. He told me to call him if I had any more trouble. He e-mailed me three times today to make sure everything was OK. The third e-mail he told me that my e-mail to WMH must have worked they had contacted him. He did tell me they had problems with Roadrunner, and he had requested that WMH not use them any more.
After talking to the Tucson terminal, they did ship my lathe down, the truck driver was very nice. He backed up to the shop, lowered the lift gate and wheeled the new lathe in. Took about 1 1/2 hours (yes I am slow) to set everything up. Haven't hooked up the remote switch yet. The lathe is very easy to put together, used my small Kabota with forks to lift the lathe up and mount the legs (one hole didn't line up on one leg). The lathe is great, turned one 12" mesquite bowl to break it in. Have a pile of shavings. Will post pic's tomarrow, to tired tonight. Even a bad experience end's well sometimes.
Want to thank Sean at Toolnut for the great price and service he and his company provided. This will not be my last time I order from Toolnut. Great Price & Great Service.....what a great business plan. It's one that works for me, I'll be back Sean. Thanks again.....Bruce

Bill will you settle for a invite to come teach me how to use it? Have to say it works great, made a 12" mesquite bowl last night, a yo-yo, a top, and a handle. Lots of mesquite shavings. Night and day over my old Delta. Wow does it have power, and no noise, love the variable speed 0-1200 on low speed. Have to say I am a mustard convert.

Congradulations. I've never turned on one but I've also never heard of someone being unhappy with one. Where are you?

Bill I'm the little guy you meet at Woodworkers Source during the Festool Demo. I'm down in Benson about 40 miles away.
