Small, just 5" tall and 2 1/2" across. Maple.

Certainly not perfect, but very smooth. The little worm hole go right thru and I was worried it would blow up.

I have been making mostly kindling and sticks of balls and coves. Tried a bowl, but things did not end well.

Pictures are not great.

Turning may be the most relaxing and rewarding hobby activity I have ever done. As a plus you get to buy very cool English steel.

Very nice looking goblet. For bowl turning I highly recommend Bill Grumbine's video (http://www.wonderfulwood.com/) . He is a great teacher, liked his video better than Raffin's, Stubb's, and a couple others. Money well spent, he takes you from tree to finish. He really teaches you how to use the bowl gouge. Good Luck and keep turning....Bruce

I agree with bruce that Grumbine's video is the best I have seen. As a retired military instructer, I can affirm that Bill is a TEACHER. :):)

Richard,
That's a pretty nice looking "thingy". Can't tell for sure, but it looks like you have a very smoothly varying curvature from the base all the way to the rim, with no "kinks" or sharp transitions. That can sometimes be difficult to achieve. Good job.

That is very cool.

My second thingy was a goblet. =) I have become addicted to making miniature ones.
