Just did some metal cutting with a Kern/Synrad 400 watt system. Wanted to share the results.

1/8" at 1"/sec and 95% power
1/4" at .3"/sec and 95% power

5 psi of o2 piercing, 40 psi of o2 cutting, 500 freq.

Results:

1/8" smooth clean cut, no slag on bottom side.

1/4" starts to ripple a bit and little bit of slag.

Enjoy the pics!

Hey Derek,
Thanks for that. Is that just mild steel? Any results on stainless yet?

In addition to what metal that is, what was the diameter of the piece?

Ah yes mild steel, 1.5" diameter.

Stainless is coming soon. Just setting it up.

For comparison purposes, I do the same edge quality at .412 ips/.25 thickness on my waterjet. Just with no slag.

Are you using gas with that?

Oxygen assist come out of the laser nozzle at 40 psi cutting and 5 psi for piercing.

Very nice... even better if I could afford one. :)

What's the ballpark price on a system of that quality?
