Does anyone have a specific brand and color stain for the Stanley Beech Totes that will get me close to the original. Or a recipe.
TIA

I thought they were just black lacquer.
I have a few and they do not seem to be stained.

Are you talking about the totes on the #40 plane? Those were finished natural. If you're talking about the totes they put on bench planes after they stopped using rosewood, I use "Early American" stain on those. It darkens the wood but is not black.

You guys are right on. I guess I should have read the "Plane Type Study". It seems my old #5 is a Type 18 and was painted Black. Most of the paint is gone and the color left looks like "Early American" stain. I am not trying to replicate just want to rehab for experience.
Thanks
