I got a new 16.5" Delta DP this weekend so I figured I could finally bore the hole in my kingwood blank for a call. =)

Time to tune up on the shotgun, looks like you will be ready for next duck season. Great looking call. Should be even more fun trying it out in the swamp. Enjoy! Bruce

One that good looking should turn them around and head them your way.

Dean,
Very nice looking call. I like the shape, looks like it will fit in your hand very well. If it sounds as good as it looks the ducks won't have a chance.

Thanks all for the nice words... =)

I have no idea why I have so much trouble doing work with a spindle gouge... When I do pens or goblets I do them with my fingernail grind bowl gouge and I get a much better transition I think.

The game calls are fun to make though... good spindle practice AND tenon practice. At the end you have something that makes a lot of noise that you can give to the child of the neighbor that drives you the most crazy... =)

Kingwood????

That was what the tag on the wood said when I got it from the store...

I admit that I am not a wood expert... I just like to make sawdust and I am not picky about what I do to achieve that. =)

Does it look like something else?

You caught me... it is marblewood:

I must have some kingwood downstairs otherwise I would not have just yanked that out of my bum.

Dean....It did look like Marblewood when I saw it yesterday. I knew what it was, but just couldn't think of it....musta destroyed too many brain cells the night before!!!!!!

You really should try some Kingwood...Very much like Cocobolo only with a slight purple cast.
