This is a bowl turned by one of my 9th grade students. The only thing I helped him on this bowl was the finish. It is around 9" in dia. by 5" high. It is turned from a locust burl he found.

Jack - be sure to let the student know that he did an outstanding job on this natural edge burl! Beautiful wood, form and finish! You have some very talented students! Thanks for posting!

Wow. Nice job, and really spectacular wood. I've never seen a bowl from locust burl before. I think I've only seen a couple locust burls in my life. Very nice.

He did a really great job. Nice shape, or form. How thick is it.

Thanks everyone,
This bowl is a consistant 1/4" thick which is thicker than most of his bowls. Being the wood was so nice he didn't want to chance the one more cut. I don't take much credit for his ability. He has what I call the eye, the ability to see and just know how thick the sides are without checking. He is going to sell this bowl so that he can buy a few tools, he bought a 14" jet lathe in the fall and needs a few good tools to use. He likes the the Thompson V-gouges we have at or school shop now.
