This is a piece of elm from off the side of the road. I really like the way this wood looks and it turns easier than most woods. It measures 12x9x4. Antique oil finish with a little wax. Thanks for looking.

Very pleasing Mike. You kept a perfect bark edge all around - something I have a bit of trouble doing. Nice work.

Very nice. I especially like the bottom of the bowl the way it rises up from the base; I'm still yet-to-finish a completed natural edge without the bark or some portion of the sapwood flying off, but those that I see others turning are often too "heavy" in the base, and really flatten out at the bottom a lot. Yours doesn't, and I like it!

Now that is impressive, Mike! Amazing how you guys keep the bark on... I can't keep the wood together most of the time. REALLY cool contrast and the photos (as always) are very good.

Mike,
Ditto what they said! Do you know (or have a likely guess) which kind of elm it is? We mostly have cedar elm in this immediate area. Can be a bit cracky/splitty, but turns well, pretty wood.

I can't say what kind of elm it is but it was kinda cracked up near the pith, kinda like layers. Thanks for the comments

Sounds like ring shank to me.
