I have reasearched SMC for some good threads on captured ring tools and the best I could find were some grainy pictures using an allen wrench. However there was no scale and no close up of the grind job done to the cutting portion.

Does anyone have links, pictures, or advice on creating my own tool for this task instead of dropping Beaucoup dollars on a store bought one?

Thanks!

All i use is a 3 point tool to make the bead and the allen key i just grind a flat on the top then round the end and undercut the round just like a scraper as its a small tool it will cut very easy no rocket science, put a goole search in for allen key turning tools most like get a few hits. A 3 point tool is very easy to make i like 1/4" die, if you want to make one look on my site in the downloads, also if you look on youtube for monster 3 point it will show you one of theres and a little jig for sharpening it, this tool is one of my most fav tools, its so vers once you understand it prop. I made these from a couple of cheap right angle screw drivers ground with a curved edge, one to cut from each side of the ring. They make a small ring about 1/8" thick that leaves very little burr on the inside of the ring. The outside of the ring is shaped with a skew.
