I recently scored quite a few tools that were free. This was among those tools, but I have no idea what it is for (the red thing w/file). This is exactly how I found it, any ideas?

It is made out of aluminium, with a file secured in the center well. There is another spot with a board attached. I used this to clamp the device into my workmate to make it stable.

I did find a use for it in the meantime. I've been using it to edge plane my cabinet scraper. Works pretty well for that. :D

Looks to me like a jig for filing an edge on a card scraper.

Hah, I just found that link myself after searching for "scraper edge filing jig". Thanks guys! Funny that I started using it for that very purpose. I was just looking at it one day and thought to myself... Hmmm, I bet I could use it to do that pretty good! LOL!

Yes, it's a filing jig for a card scraper. I have the Veritas version that is virtually identical.

I have one of these and I've never been able to get a satisfactory edge on a card scraper by using it. Any tips? How hard do you have to push the scraper against the burnisher?

Thanks.
