overblade tablesaw dust collection

Good Day Fellow Creekers,
I am pleased to show my new over-blade tablesaw dust collection.
I had been looking for a solution that would avoid an obtrusive boom arm.
I need to thank Roy Wall for his excellent and elegant solution for the SawStop. (link to his thread from here)

Roy originally used his Fein shop vac to the guard, and later switched to 4" duct to his Super Gorilla.
There was no need for me to reinvent the wheel behind his pioneering approach...

You may notice my original SawStop guard has the kickback pawls removed. Here is a link to Joe Jenson's thread about unwanted pawl tracks:

Somewhat surprisingly, SawStop inventor Mr. Steve Gass chimes in on that post, and refers to the need for pawls that can be removed.
He states that it would be better to use the guard without the pawls, over not using the guard at all.
(added bonus: it was my first Creek posting, and a welcome from Roy)

I am starting out using 6' of 50mm Felder hose (2"dia) for now, probably upgrade as Roy did in my good time.

-quick allen wrench removal (note the 1" split pin which mounts a.k.b. pawls)

I ordered the blade guard from Felder of Austria. They have a new office in
Toronto Canada. It appears under accessories in the Hammer catalog, as part #420-708. The only guard currently available is from a 12" dia saw.
Roy noted that at full blade height, he nicked his similar guard meant for a 10" saw, about a 1/2 inch. At full blade height, which I have yet to use,
I would nick the front of my guard about 1/16" deep.

The pics are:
-the original used the top hole, the new uses the front hole and fits nice
-the new mount readily used the new hardware...a No shopping trip project!
-blade full up to 3.125"
-blade full down
-very slim cousins

On another wood forum, I saw a post by Mr. Gass foretelling of a SawStop guard to come which would include a d/c outlet.
I waited as long as I could, but feel that adequate d/c is also an important aspect of woodshop safety.
My recent email to SS suggested nothing was on the horizon, so I went ahead with Roy's solution. (the 50mm Felder hose fit without mod.)
I am very pleased!

Very nice setup, Walt...very much like what you'd find on a Euro slider, especially considering your source! LOL And I'm with you on removal of the pawls. They came off the Biesemeyer splitter I ran on the cabinet saw that I used to own from day one. They don't exist on my slider's riving knife.

Good setup! I felt like both the vacuum or the DC was equal in their dust collection efficiency. An added bonus is the fact you can pop off the hose and clean the whole top when needed. The upper blade DC really helped to minimize the dust and I'm very happy with this 2 years running.

Well done -- I couldn't wait for SS to deliver their own brand either...:)
