Any of the many aniline dyes, or RIT from the sewing store, (very intense). Good luck. You should probably try wharever on scrapwood first. :)

when you dye a peice, do you just dip the wood and take it out or let it sit? and how long should it dry

I use some Artisan dyes that I get from Craft Supply and they are alcohol base and take a very short time to dry. I have used the Ritz dyes and the only problem with then is that they are held in a water solution and therefore then dry slower. With the dye that I use I use an acid brush to put it on and that way I can control the amount and placement of the colors. I hope this helps.
