Just got some pics of Ron Brese' wrap-up of a plane I ordered. The is a combo tax-return/50th Bday gift splurge. I had a rather large pc of ebony and sent a portion to Ron for this. He certainly did it justice. Now how's a guy supposed to sleep at night waiting for the UPS stork to deliver the baby?

Wow, Doug, sweet looking plane. Post once you've taken it out for a road test.

Sweet plane.... A welcome addition to any stable.

How many more sleeps before it arrives?

Just got the tracking nbr email. Looks like Wednesday, so FOUR.
Oh, the humanity.:eek::D

Very nice. I like the new touches Ron has added. And steel sole. Nice.

Yeah, he mentioned a few surprises coming. The radius on the iron to match the plane heel appears to be the norm now. Not too sure about the cap screw inlay. And the steel sole was totally unexpected. When I asked if he was using me for a guinea pig for an experiment, I got:
Actually the steel sole is an upgrade item, and yes you were a bit of
a guinea pig, but if this is what experimenting on one gets them then
more people would volunteer I think
Totally cool.
He offered to send pics with curly shavings popping out but I think that might just make the waiting excruciating.

When Doug ordered the plane it was meant to be the standard edition version but upgraded with the ebony that he sent for the infill. This is an infill material that is usually reserved for Special Edition planes. As I got closer to completing the plane Doug sent me pictures of his new workbench. I was so impressed with the extensive work that he did on the bench I decided at that point to shoot the works on his plane. Hey, you only turn 50 once ya know. So away I went to inlay the lever cap with a bit more of his ebony, and added one of the new style irons.

About the picture I've attached, Doug I couldn't resist, you set yourself up for this one.LOL (grin) LOL

Doug and I have kept in touch throughout the process of building his plane and it's been great fun, we have poked a bit of fun at one another in the process. By the way all the shavings in the pic are under .001

So do I, but it's in some gulldurn brown truck.
I knew it was gonna hurt to look.

Hey Ron
All I can say is next time you need another guinea pig, just stick me in a treadmill, feed me sunflower seeds, and call me Skippy. I've got a few different hard, curly, figured things I can't wait to test drive this on.
Thanks again for the extra touch.

1) Holy Cheese this thing is Heavy
2) Ron's pics dont do it justice
Sorry folks. I'll get back later when my breath comes back. I just want to spend some quality alone time with this before I feel like sharing. You'd understand if you held it.

Well my plane is anyway...
I noticed it's now gracing the page on Ron's website

Tres Cool.

I'll get back with some action pics after I've had a bit more practice with it. I've been monkeying around on a piece of curly mango and it's leaving an extremely nice surface. This piece is tough to determine grain direction on and Ron's plane cuts so darn well that I was actually planing against the grain for a while before I noticed. No tearout at all but it just felt slightly rough so I turned it around and realized I'd been going backwards. Going against the grain with this plane looks as good as going with the grain on most of my other planes. Sweet.
